Kite kept one of the most extensive dumpboxes Sora
had ever been privy to. He never threw anything out if he could help it,
prefering to store stacks of obsolete and unusuable weapons than even think
to sell or discard them. He had even, he explained to Sora, begun paying
an extra 500 yen a month for additional storage space, because he feared
running out.
He had a full collection of rares for Twin Blades,
and an insane, mostly random assortment of other class weapons as well.
Huge swords meant most probably for BlackRose featured prominently, but
also powerful wands, elaborate javelins, and in one case a gag Heavy Axeman
weapon shaped like a baseball bat that Kite wanted to give to Terajima
Ryoko for her birthday, but she wasn't around anymore.
There were also, Sora found, his weapons.
Sora was convinced it was by the hand of some anonymous
deity that the person who succeeded in awakening him from Skeith's wand
was a Twin Blade like himself. He had had no idea at the time just how
important that particular Twin Blade would end up being, but the irony
was enough to get through to him. In hindsight, it seemed like a stupid
gesture, offering up your best weapons to someone as thanks for saving
your life, but at the time it seemed the only appropriate thing. He could
go on rationalizing by way of bright white lights, glories of god, salvation,
a renunciation of sin and PKing, but in the end it seemed so very trite.
And a really stupid way of saying thanks.
"Oh, those," Kite said brightly, allowing Sora to
pull them out of the box they had been stored in. "Those were my favorite
blades ever. Carried me through so many levels you don't even know. I really
owe you."
"You kept them," Sora said absently, turning them
over in his hands. They glinted in the light.
"Well... yeah." Kite smiled nervously. "Is it bad?"
"These are so weak now," Sora managed, equipping
one for a moment to test its edge in the air. "Back when I got them, they
were a special event item, maybe only seven in existence. Now there's all
these stupid new expansions and these got demoted down to Uncommon; they
even sell them in the marketplace."
"They're very useful, though."
"Never let me down," Sora agreed, stabbing at the
air.
Kite chuckled. "Would you like 'em back?"
The blade froze.
"What, seriously?"
"Yeah, seriously."
"Bull," he said decidedly, standing upright. He
began unequipping the weapons. "You can't give back a gift just like that.
Think about the other person."
"Come on," Kite reasoned, "why do you think I kept
them? Just to sit around in a box forever?"
"Says The World's One and Only Arbitrary
Cartographer. I don't know why you do half the things you do; how d'you
expect me to understand your logic to anything?"
"Because," the shorter PC explained simply, "it's
not every day you meet Nimue and she hands you Excalibur."
"You're so weird."
